  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ⅓ cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons dry white wine (or broth)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 medium yellow onions
  • Fresh thyme leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a baking dish, combine melted butter and olive oil. Whisk in balsamic vinegar, white wine (or broth), sugar, salt, and pepper.
  3. Peel and halve the onions; place cut-side up in the baking dish.
  4. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  5. Remove foil, turn onions cut-side down, and continue baking uncovered for an additional 20–25 minutes until tender and glazed.
  6. Before serving, turn onions cut-side up again and garnish with fresh thyme if desired.
