Ingredients
- 3 pounds pork shoulder
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 2 tablespoons black pepper
- 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
- 1/2 tablespoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 garlic clove (minced)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Prepare the dry rub by mixing salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, and minced garlic in a small bowl.
- Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and generously apply the dry rub all over the meat.
- In another bowl, combine brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, additional salt and pepper, paprika, ground mustard, and liquid smoke to create the cooking liquid.
- Place the seasoned pork shoulder in the slow cooker and pour the cooking liquid over it.
- Cover and cook on low heat for at least 8 hours or until the pork is tender enough to shred easily.
- Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with forks before serving on buns or atop nachos.
