  • 3 pounds pork shoulder
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons black pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dry rub by mixing salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, and minced garlic in a small bowl.
  2. Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and generously apply the dry rub all over the meat.
  3. In another bowl, combine brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, additional salt and pepper, paprika, ground mustard, and liquid smoke to create the cooking liquid.
  4. Place the seasoned pork shoulder in the slow cooker and pour the cooking liquid over it.
  5. Cover and cook on low heat for at least 8 hours or until the pork is tender enough to shred easily.
  6. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with forks before serving on buns or atop nachos.
